about me

’m Delphi Macpherson, a potter and teacher based in Newquay, Cornwall, and currently the studio manager at Wedge Studio. I started pottery as a hobby over ten years ago, taking courses and workshops across Manchester to develop my skills in handbuilding and throwing.

In 2022, I left my job at an LGBT+ homeless charity, self converted a van, and moved from Manchester to Cornwall. Since then, I’ve been practicing ceramics regularly at Wedge Studio, eventually moving into teaching and studio management. I love bringing people together with clay, watching connections form, and seeing the calm focus that comes over people when they first step into a pottery studio.

I make a mix of handbuilt vases and sculptures inspired by the cliffs and beaches of my favourite Cornish coastal spots, as well as the rocks and hills I grew up around in the Peak District. I also create functional ceramics, like mugs, bowls, and salt pigs, and continue to throw on the wheel as much as possible. I’m constantly inspired by the natural world, the way it changes through the seasons and the life–death cycles that are present in everything around us.

I also set up a Queer Pottery Club in Newquay, supported by FEAST, which meets on the first Sunday of every month. It’s important to me to create inclusive, welcoming spaces where people can connect, explore, and express themselves through clay. You can find out more via our Instagram @queerpotteryclub or by checking out our eventbrite.
